'Radiation Invasion' by Iris van Herpen - SS10
Exaggerated and impractical yet artistically striking, the spring/summer collection of Dutch designer, Iris van Herpen proved to be one of the most evocative presentations at London Fashion Week. Materials including leather, iron, brass, and hair were used in the construction of van Herpen's radiation inspiration, as models showcased intricately-crafted mini-dresses, jumpsuits, and coats in hues of black, navy, white and gold. What little experience the designer has had in the international fashion scene, having only graduated from ARTEZ School of Arts in 2006, she has more than made up for with the avant-garde extensions found within the construction of her collection. With feminine chemises that feature large brass wings, ruffled puff shoulders, and sculpted bodices, van Herpen's sophisticated and statuesque pieces have already garnered enviable press and will serve as an exhibition at Harrods this November.
